The Azlan Shah Cup is Asias premier annual mens hockey tournament. It is currently held in Ipoh, Malaysia during the first half of each year.

The teams are by invitation and typically include several of the world power-houses of hockey. Besides the host nation Malaysia, teams generally include Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and South Korea. Holland, Belgium and Egypt together with Argentina have also been represented during previous campaigns.
World number 2 Australia drew withNew Zealand 1-1 today. The kookaburras controlled most of the game but still came up short where it mattered. This is a huge result for a depleted Blacksticks side and a very valuable point for them going into day 2. All 3 games were drawn today which keeps the competition wide open.
